Top Tips When Going Through A Child Custody Dispute

Tips

Child custody disputes are very common in Media, and throughout Pennsylvania. They are also some of the most painful for everyone in the entire family. If you are currently in the middle of a child custody dispute, or you are about to go through one, you are likely very concerned that you will miss out on time with your child in the future. Fortunately, our Media child custody lawyer outlines tips below that can help you prepare for these proceedings and give you the best chance of success.

Show Responsibility

When going through child custody proceedings, it is critical that you show the judge you are responsible. Show that you always think of your child and put their needs first, which means more than just making sure their basic needs are met. Show the judge that you help your child with their homework, are invested in their extracurricular activities, and that you take a real interest in their life, regardless of how stressful your own life becomes.

Spend as Much Time with Your Child as Possible

To give yourself the best chance of success during a custody dispute, you must show that you enjoy spending time with your child. Even if you are working longer hours at your job, or you feel you need a break and want to spend time with friends, it is important to avoid these distractions. Instead, spend as much quality time as possible with your child and become invested in their life. This will greatly help with your custody case.

Keep Your Child Out of It

You may be tempted to speak disparagingly about your child’s other parent but it is critical that you do not do this during custody proceedings. You should never speak badly about your spouse to your children, regardless of how contentious it has become. Additionally, you should not speak badly about your spouse any time your child may be able to hear you, such as when they are in the car or at home with you.

Stay Off of Social Media

Posting to social media is part of many people’s daily routine. When going through child custody proceedings, though, it is important to refrain from posting to social media. Scrolling through these sites and looking at the posts of family and friends likely will not do any harm, but you should not post anything yourself. Anything you post may be taken out of context by your spouse and their attorney, and this can seriously hurt your child custody case.
